The invention of the revolving door is still relatively new. The patent, which was applied for a patent in 1881 by the German H. Bodenhacker as a "door without draught", remains a footnote of the inventor's history, as no further exploitation by the patent holder takes place. In contrast to this is the invention of a three-part "storm door", on which Theophilus Van Kannen was granted a U. S. patent in 1888, and which had its world premiere as a wooden construction in a restaurant in Manhattan in 1899. Today, revolving doors are indispensable everywhere where visitors are to be offered a convenient entrance and exit for busy buildings.
